You need to download the new launcher. When logging into minecraft 1.5 it should give you a link on the main menu. If it doesn't, go to https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/launcher/Minecraft.exe (link on minecraft.net)
The new launcher will automatically download and when you run it, it will ask your account information (name and password) on the gray bar on the right. Enter it and click play and you have minecraft 1.6! Enjoy
