I used to have this App and yes you can save worlds by tapping the menu then save.
Pause the game and select either "Save and continue" to save your progress and keep playing or "Save and quit" to save your progress and stop playing.
Like most NES games, there is no way to save your progress in Super Mario Bros.

Currently, the progress you made will be auto-saved on Minecraft Pocket Edition, and pressing "Quit to Title" will also save it before returning to the main menu.

You can put the executable on the desktop and play it, but you cannot save and load files from anywhere but the default location. All of the save files for Minecraft are stored in My Documents/Application Data(a hidden folder)/.minecraft(also hidden). There is no way to change this location.
