For split screen:
Step 1: You must be using an HD TV, otherwise split screen isn't possible
Step 2: Connect your second controller and sign into a different profile with it
Step 3: Start the game and join with the second controller
For Xbox Live:
Step 1: Make sure you've made your session an online game
Step 2: Bring up your menu by pressing the Xbox button on your controller, navigate to Friends, find and invite your gaming buddy.
