In PC: Either press E for survival inventory (also has a 2x2 crafting grid and 4 more spaces for armor), or right click a crafting table block (3x3)
In Pocket Edition: The player must first craft a crafting table. After the player taps the crafting table, the MATTIS pops up with crafting options. To craft bricks, stone bricks, stone-based slabs, or stone-based stairs, the player should build a Stone-cutter.
In Xbox 360: Pressing X opens the 2×2 crafting menu, selecting the crafting table makes the 3 x 3 grid.

A crafting table is basically the way that Minecraft is played. Without a crafting table, Minecraft is basically nothing. It is very complicated to tell all the recipes. In the related link sections is the link for the crafting recipes.
Open your inventory, (e by default.) In the upper right corner there are four squares used for crafting called a crafting area. Put logs (punch trees) into the crafting area, and take the planks out of the side. Fill the crafting area with planks, and you got a crafting table with 3 by 3 crafting!

You need to go to your start menu and type Roaming and push enter. This should open up a folder. Inside the folder is a .mincraft. Delete that and your minecraft will be reset so all you need to do is run minecraft. Have fun crafting!

Windows XP: Open the start menu, click "Run" then type %appdata%. It will open a folder with Roaming in it. Open that, and then click on the .minecraft file. Windows 7: Open the start menu, and then type %appdata% in the search bar. It will open a folder with Roaming in it. Open that, and then click on the .minecraft file.
