On the first screen you see before going in and seeing "campeign, matchmaking firefight, custom game" etc. click campaign. It will automatically have the map you left off on.

If this happened on Monday don't worry about it the servers werre down and now their back up. If it continues happening all you can really do is go on Bunigie.net and go under the communtiy tabs, then go under Halo Reach BETA feedback and post your problem there.
