If you try to "ignore" something, you usually wind up thinking about it: "I'm ignoring my foot fetish. Oops, there it is again. I'm ignoring my foot fetish..."

The best thing to do is focus your attention on something else -- building model airplanes, solving crossword puzzles, playing soccer, etc. Allow yourself time to think about your fetish once a day or so. Don't feel guilty about it, don't get all worked up, just let your mind wander through the fetish. Then, "put it away" and focus on something else.

This approach does take time, depending on the strength of the fetish and the attractiveness of the "something else." Don't get all mad at yourself for "failing" -- just keep working on the "something else." Eventually, you will find a balance that allows you to get on with the rest of your life.

If this does not work for you, you should probably talk to a mental health professional. They're used to dealing with obsessions of all sorts, and the good ones won't judge you! Good luck.
