You have to beat the game on hard first, which unlocks the 'Legendary Dark Night' as a playable character. Sadly you have to start a new game to use him, but he does begin with Yamato, although it is merely a skin instead of Alastor. It changes Your devil trigger into Sparda and you have his namesake weapon too. :D

Devil May Cry is about a half human and half demon Named Dante and he does is hunt demons down and gets paid for it. And that Dante is the main character of Devil May Cry 1,2,3. But in Devil May Cry 4 a character named Nero is the main person and Dante is the second main character. And in the first game Dante meets a woman named Trish, whom looks like his mother(you'll learn the later in the first game). Then soon in the second game Dante meets Lucro. Then in the third game Dante meets two characters, a woman named Lady and his brother Virgil, who wants his father's power to get stronger. And Lady wants to kill her own father cause he killed her mother in order to attain power as a demon via using the power of Sparda but, become horridly mutated for he was unworthy of such power. Although Devil May Cry 3 is the third game, it comes first. The games go in this order : 3, 1, 2, 4. There is also a manga (japanese style comic book) series that takes place before the third game, and a anime (japanese style cartoon show) series that takes place after the first game. Dante's other name is Tony Redgrave, and he and his brother Vergil are the sons of Sparda (AKA The Dark Knight Sparda).

Devil May Cry 5 when is it coming out?
Nobody actually knows yet. I'm writing this on July 3rd, 2009 when there are no official rumours. It was speculated by some that one of Capcom's mystery games, to be announced at E3 2009, would be Devil May Cry 5, but Capcom denied these rumours, and, of course, DMC5 was not revealed at E3 2009. Neither was the rumoured teaser trailer for DMC5, said to durate 1:32. Capcom have given the go-ahead for DMC5, but the creators aren't focusing on it at the moment -- they have other projects they're working on. Hopefully, DMC5 will be revealed at E3 2010 which is taking place between June 17 - 19 in 2010, of course. I do think they will make another DMC game because DMC4 seems to be so... oh, I don't know... dead-ended? I think DMC4 is a prologue for DMC5 like Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is for Kingdom Hearts II.
