ok..............go through a ladder and you'll reach a room with 4 holes (one each in every side) and a box in the middle.
Go nearer to the box and press "a".
count how many wierd characters are shown........
if its 2, its obviously "up"
if its 4, it can be either "left" or "down"
if its 5, its "right"
