How do you get the characters in Mario Super Sluggers?

It's easier to get characters in challenge mode than in exhibition. All you need to do is walk around and recruit teammates by completing scout missions that they assign you, or battling any of Bowser's minions in battle missions to free them. For example, go to DK Jungle as Mario. Talk to DK and Dixie Kong and you will have recruited them! DK and Mario are captains. You can switch between captains with -. Each captain has special abilities. Use DK to smash barrels and crates to pick up coins and look for teammates. He can also use barrel cannons. Mario can enter pipes and search plants. Other captains include Wario, Peach, and Yoshi. Wario can be obtained at Wario City, and can use his magnet to investigate garbage cans and open treasure boxes. Peach's heart power can do many random things. Yoshi can ground-pound into manholes and next to trees to find what's in them. There are 41 characters that can be found, such as Blooper (Mario Stadium), Birdo (Yoshi Park), and Waluigi (Wario City). Upon getting characters from every ballpark, go to Bowser Jr.'s Playroom to defeat him, and then switch the day to night (by clicking the sun with the pointer) to play Bowser at Bowser's castle. Upon defeating Bowser a few times, he and all his minions will join your team.
