You make the sims happy meter happy and make sure it has many friends and is very social and every thing on the needs meter is perfect when it goes to work it might get a promotion if not just wait.

Plus when you pause and click the icon with a guy sitting at a desk the smiley faces at the bottom is how many friends reqired to get promoted if you don't have enough friends like not ppl you know like aquatences but friends you won't get promoted plus your mood has to be good too
