Or you can cheat and pick any of the houses that you want, use (Shift, click) on all of the sims living in that house deleting them and once you have gotten rid of them all, you can use (motherlode) to get enough money to buy the house and the house you want will be on the market ready for you to move into. But hurry, if you dont buy the house within a sim day then it'll automatically be given to a new family to the town.
