You can give the wolf bones by holding it and left clicking on the wolf until heats pop up and it receives a red collar. The number of bones it takes to tame a wolf is random. From my experiences, it generally takes from 1 to 6 bones for each wolf. To get bones, you kill skeletons and take their loot (bones.) Some other useful information: The angle of the dogs tail to its bottom is what represents how much life it has. The less life it has, the more down the tail would be. Also, when the wolf is weak, it will generally make a whimering sound
