feed a bone to a wolf you might need to give it more than one and you get bones from skeletons unless you are in creative mode
Every major update to Minecraft the id's on some items change. Go to the the MinecraftWiKi and they will have the updated list. Or you can change your mode from survival to creative mode and just use the item you want.
Just put the bone on the action bar, and while holding it in your hand, right click the wolf.
There are two ways, as far as I'm aware. 1) In Creative mode with a Wolf spawner, create one wolf (this will be an adult by default). Right-click with the spawner on the created wolf. This will result in a baby wolf; this can be repeated as many times as desired. 2) In survival/adventure mode, find and tame two wolves. With any raw meat in your inventory, feed both wolves once; they should have hearts above their heads and they will both mate, producing one baby wolf. By default this will be your pet. I think you can create wild baby wolves by feeding wild wolves one meat/bone in quick succession, causing them to mate and have a baby. Note: If your dogs are sitting/in stay pose, right-click with a bone to make them stand and follow. They will not breed when sitting/stationary.
you can be on any mode to have a dog, just have a few bones in your hand and right click on a wolf to tame it. it will follow you around everywhere.

Yes, if you give a wolf a bone then the wolf will be tamed and follow and protect you.

Yes, you can either breed two tamed wolves like you do on survival, or you can simply right-click on a wolf with a wolf spawner egg.

Giving a wolf any raw or cooked meat, or rotten flesh, after you've tamed it, will put it into love mode. When you get two into love mode, they'll get together and breed, and you'll have a cute wolf puppy.
To tame a wolf you simply have to equip a bone which you can get from skeletons, then walk up to a wolf and press LT this will feed it the bone. you may have to do this several times but if love hearts appear above his head hes tame. As a side note if you feed lamb to two tame wolfs they will have a baby.
