To do a backflip in Super Mario Sunshine you hold down L on the Gamecube controlloer. This will put you in strafe mode. Then, press Down+A. You will backflip. Also, while shooting FLUDD you will do a HUGE spray of water in front of you, but it will stop your spray. You will need to re-press R to start shooting again once you land.
