How do you connect to the PokeWalker after you have started a new game in Pokemon SoulSilver?

You'll need to wait until you catch at least one other Pokemon, then store it in your PC. Save then restart, in the main menu go to "Connect to Pokewalker".
Or turn to pg. 52 in the instruction booklet and read the part that says How to restart your pokewalker!

i have never tried that but i am guessing your meganiums data is corrupted considering that was from a different file

You cant connect white your pokewalker because you started a new game?
To reset the PokeWalker after starting a new game, select 'CONNECT TO POKEWALKER' from the Main Menu on the DS. When you see 'Save, then go for a stroll', press 'L' when holding 'down' and 'x'. Say yes to the caution screen, and it will reset, and you can now connect with the PokeWalker like normal.
