You need to upgrade your hammer and axe. To do this, enter the first mine and break stones. Find some copper, silver, gold or mystrile (Check on your tool experience screen to find out which. You must unlock Fugue Forest before you can get Wood. Once you have take your Axe and chop the stumps found there. It will take many hits to break the stump. After you have gained enough experience with your Axe you have it upgraded. Then you'll be able to break stumps faster. And you can even cut down trees once your Axe is good enough. You can also get Wood by winning the Foraging Contest at the New Years Eve Festival on Winter 28th.
