How can video games provide a fun and social form of entertainment?

Videogames can be fun, and social because there are multiplayer games, games that you will want to come back to everyday, and keep playing instead of going home and reading a book. Take Gears of War for example, I like to play Horde mode with my dad, because its challenging, and we can't do it without each other. We play it for hours only getting to about wave 25, but we have something to do together, we try to help each other out of bad situations.
