There is no evidence to support this.

Brain cells are killed by:

  • Alcohol
  • Drugs
  • Suffering a stroke
  • Lack of exercise
  • Dehydration
  • Concussions
  • Chemotherapy
  • Smoking tobacco
  • Extreme panic attacks
  • Electrocution
  • Carbon Monoxide poisoning
  • Pesticides
  • Inhaling strong solvents such as paint remover
  • Microwaves (the actual waves, not the appliance itself)
  • Formaldehyde
  • Exposure to radiation
  • Steroids
  • Post traumatic stress disorder
  • Consuming too much water
  • Sensory deprivation
  • Lack of sleep
  • Too much caffeine

There is no evidence that gaming "kills" brain cells. It would be far too difficult to conduct an experiment in the area considering you'd have to find participants who do not fall into the points above. Scientists have accepted that we may never fully understand the human brain. As a matter of fact, some games are used to improve brain functions successfully (educational and IQ games).

Soldiers and pilots even train using virtual simulations, which are technically games.
