Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Sega Genesis/Mega Drive in 1992.
The Sega Mega Drive, also known as the Sega Genesis in North America, was first released in Japan on October 29, 1988. It was later released in North America in 1989 and in Europe in 1990.
Sega Mega-CD was created in 1992.
Actually, they do. The Mega Drive (or Genesis if you live in the USA) is backwards compatable. Originally, Sega released the Power Base converter in all regions. This is essentially an extention to the toploader that allows for a Master System-shaped cartridge to be attached. It's called the Mega Adapter in Japan and the Master System Converter in Europe. There is a second model for the Mega Drive MkII, but this is rarer and was only released in Europe. Some games may not work with the regular controler, so it may be necessary to switch to a Master System controler. But don't worry, they use the same ports. There is one game that doesn't work on the Mega Drive: F-16 Fighting Falcon.
