Personally, I think you shouldn't. I mean, who wants to loose an AK47? BUT, on the other hand, you could experience the fun of collecting all that XP again, and experience the utter glee you feel when you unlock a certain gun/attachment

How do you get golden weapons in call of duty 4 modern warfare?
You have to complete all challenges for each gun under that category. For example: To Unlock the Golden AK47 you must get 150 Kills and 150 Headshots for all assault rifles. (Minus the MP44 which only needs the headshots). The same goes for the other categories, Shotgun and LMG are the easiest since they have fewer guns to complete.
