You can make two or more, as long as each is an actual word, and all of the added tiles are on the same line. You score all of the words separately, so some letters will be scored twice.
For example:

  • adding an S to "cat" forms the word "cats" and if you have the letter O, placing it perpendicularly under the S will also spell "so." Score both cats and so.
  • for an existing word "sob" you can place an H under the O (oh), an E under the B (be) and an R following them, scoring the new word (her) and the other two as well. This is called a "parallel play" and can very rarely make five or six words, with an absolute maximum of eight.
