The moon stone like other Pokemon games are used for evolving pokemon such as nidoran, nidorino, jigglypuff, Evee, ect some more.
Yes in fact you can get dozens if you trade with firered or leafgreen because they can buy water stones all they need to do is trade you a Pokemon holding the water stone and when you get it just take the water stone from it!
You can get a moon stone by mining under ground with the explorers kit in hopes to find one.and i heard u can use thief on a cleffa and you might get a moon ston.(underground you can get more stones)
You can't buy a moon stone, but you can get a moon stone in Meteor Falls. You can only evolve Skitty, clefairy and Jigglypuff with that stone. Actually you can get even more, infinately, by using the move thief on multiple lunatones, which can be found in Meteor Falls, but not in Pokemon Ruby. If you don't get a moonstone right away form a wild lunatone, run away and find another. You cannot do this to find a sunstone, which are held by solrocks wich can only be found in Ruby. So if you want a bellosom and a corsola, don't trade, corsola can be fished with a super rod. in the east south ocean.
Mudkip is available as a starter pokemon in more than one games. They are Pokemon Ruby, Pokemon Sapphire, Pokemon Emerald, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire.

Gloom can be evolved from a sun stone into a Bellosem. Remember, the stinkier the Gloom, the more pretty the Bellosem.
Stone for stone, a diamond will cost more than a sapphire.
In the emerald version only one moon stone exists in the whole game! I know I'm shocked too since there are more Pokemon to evolve with the moon stone now. But all hope is not lost if you own or know someone who owns Pokemon sapphire. The wild lunatone which can be caught in sapphire may hold this treasured item. Using covet or thief you may steal this held item or catch the lunatone with the held item and trade it over. Well that is the official and only way to get more moon stones unless you know some cheat that is similar to duplicating more master balls.
