No the new PS3 slim can not play PS2 games. To make the PS3 profitable and have it quit selling for a loss Sony stopped making PS3s that could play PS2 games long before the release of the PS3 slim. The only reason you could ever play PS2 games on the first PS3s was the game catalog for the PS3 was next to nothing. Once the catalog of games increased they dropped the ability to play PS2 games.

The PS3 slim and most of the fat PS3s do not play PS2 games and there is nothing that will change that. If you do not have a PS3 with a Card reader and 4 USB ports you will never be able to play PS2 games on it, except the few PS2 games sold at the Playstation store and already converted into PS3 games
Yes and No depending what ps3 model you have! If it has 2 usb ports it can only play ps1 games. If you have the ps3 slim it can't play any ps2 games no matter how many GB it has. Any ps3 can play ps1 games! ps1 and ps2 games can be saved on to the ps3 As long as you have the memory card adapter. You can only save ps2 games on the 20gb and 60gb and 80gb which have 4 usb ports!
