Actually u CAN play any-region games on any-region PS3 console, as long as u don't plan to add-on any downloaded contents to the game from different regions. The region markings are for downloadable contents u see. If u are in Asia the region is 3, so when u download stuff u will get R3 contents.
Lets say ur console's R3 n u wanna d/load extra maps for game A which is R1... the game will crash. Make sure the game is R3 first.
Hope im not confusing u.
Im sorry to tell you that the U.S PS3 games will not work on UK PS3 console, and the reason for that is -The PS3 games are made with regions. The US PS3 games are made for region 1 and UK PS3 games are region 2... Therefore the region 1 ps3 console will only play region 1 ps3 games, just like region 2 ps3 console will only play region 2 ps3 games. Hope that makes any sense. If you have more questions just message me. The reason is not region coding, but it is the USA TV design system is different from the others and games made to work for the USA system do not all have the ability to be changed and be played on the UK and Europe TVs. The affect is the same as if they were region coded except that region coding fixes also will not work because it is the TVs that can not play the games and not the PS3
It depends on which region Canada is in. America is Region 1. it says what region the game is on the case
No, they cannot. But you can play PlayStation 1 games on a PS2, and PS2 games on a PS3 (but on later models, the PS3 cannot play them).
No, the games are region locked. Like the games I bought in the US have the number 1 on the side, so your PS3 would have to be region code 1.This answer is infact, wrong. The PS3 is region free. Meaning games from all around the world can be played on it. The only things which wont work on your ps3 because of a region lock are PS1 games, PS2 games and Blu-ray films.Sources: I have been abroad numerous times and bought PS3 games. They have all worked.
Yes you can play PS1 games on a PS3. All PS3 models play PlayStation 1 Games and do so through software emulation. simple answer is a YES sorry should have started with yes

Yes the Playstation games will play on all PS3 models
yes All PS3 can play Select PlayStation 1 games including the new PS3 slim models
Yes PlayStation 1 and 2 are region locked. This means if you have an American PS2 (or 1) you can only play American games, no European, Japanese, etc. The PS3 and PSP , on the other hand, are region free, this means if you have a European ps3 or psp, you can buy games from japan (if you want) and it will work.
All PS3 models play PlayStation 1 Games and do so through software emulation.
Any PS3 game will work on any PS3. The PS3 has no region coding, so it's compatible with games from any region. The only issues you will have are with PS2 and PS1 games, and DVD/BD movies. PS1/2 games and DVDs are region coded, meaning they will only play on a player from the same region. So if you have a Japanese PS3 it won't play PS2/PS1 games or DVDs from the US. This is a double edged sword though. While you won't be able to play North American PS2/1 games and DVDs, you will be able to play Japanese imported PS2/1 games and DVDs, which is pretty cool. As far as online functions and the PSN store, this will all work fine as long as you set up your account as a US account. I have a US PS3 and have both a US and Japaense PSN account. I use the JP account to download demos and other media from the JP PSN store, that aren't available in America.
There are no regions for ps3 games..? You buy a ps3 game in America, it should work on a ps3 in Britain. When it comes to bluray movies though, they are region locked. This is false because while right about the regions there are other factors and the PS3 USA games have been designed for a different television system and will not work in the UK's PAL TV System This is also why the PS3s are different for the different areas and the model numbers help to tell them apart USA model numbers end in 01 which covers North America The first North American PS3 was released there Nov 17, 2006 and the model number was CECHA01 SDTV region is NTSC Blu-ray Region is A DVD Region is 1 NTSC PS2 Region is NTSC-U/C and the PS1 Region is NTSC-US 03 is U.K. / Ireland and the first PS3 was released there on Mar 23, 2007 with model number of CECHC03. SDTV Region is PAL, Blu-ray Region is B, DVD Region is 2, PAL PS2 Region is PAL, & PS1 Region is PAL.

No it is not based on region and is based on the TV signals for the PS3s
