Besides not being able to read the Blu-Ray PS3 game discs the PS2 lacks both the hardware and software to be able to play PS3 games.
yes they do but you need to download some things{:
First most PS3s do not play PS2 games but the ones that did were designed to play many PS2 game titles and a PS2 was not designed to play any PS3 games. They are very different consoles and the PS3 is much more technologically capable than a PS2. The PS3 also has a Bluray disc drive that can play Bluray Discs, DVDs, and Cds and the PS2 has a DVD Discs drive that can play DVDs and CDs but not Bluray Discs. The PS2 does not have the computer power needed to run the PS3 software and when titles are released for both consoles the game has to be downgraded to run in the PS2 just like they do for the portable game players releases that are also released in Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. Even the Nintendo Wii can not run the software of the PS3 and Xbox 360 games and there games are also downgraded. Older PC model and Laptop owners might find that they do not meet the minimum requirements to run the new PC games that have software programs like the PS3 and Xbox 360 games and the same is true for the PS2. It just does not meet the minimum requirements needed to play PS3 games and is well past time for a system update to the PS3.
It is possible to play PS2 games on a PS3 game system. You cannot play PS3 games on a PS2.
PS2 games can not be made to play on a PS3 that does not already play PS2 games
