I had purchased one from Lowe's. However, there is an internal fuse that when it blows you are SOL. The fuse is sodered to the mainboard that operates the motor. So you have to do the manual labor to fix it....POOR PRODUCT DESIGN

I have the same question.....power board has a loose heat cink, it has probably been like that from day one. Don't think it is repairable. Board looks smoked on the back side. I'm afraid if I can find a new board, it will cost more than the whole original unit.

I have one of these also and my board is also burned, but on both side. Like yourself, I believe mine was faulty from the beginning. I have just started looking for a new board (5-2008). Did you have any luck?

Design has problems for a number of reasons. Power supply does not have a cooling fan (why it burned out), and sits directly below the thermoelectric heat sink (why the unit will not cool as well as advertised). The fix is easy and cheap. Remove the factory power supply -- the rest of the unit is 12V DC. Take any working computer power supply with enough capacity (I used a 450W unit). Used units are usually free, new ones about $20. Follow the wiki instructions for how to convert a computer power supply to a regulated lab power supply. Leave out all the fancy stuff -- you only need 12V power from the yellow and black wires. I did this in under an hour without even opening up the power supply. The result is a more efficient unit that will cool down faster and lower. Good luck.
