Libby's
Pumpkin pie filling can be made with canned pumpkin pie filling; or it can be made from pumpkin puree, made from real pumpkins. When made from real pumpkin puree, it is mixed with milk, sugar, and spices to make a very tasty filling. Some people use allspice, nutmeg and/or cinnamon as the spices.
No, canned pumpkin does not have the additional ingredients required for pie that are included in canned pumpkin pie mix. If one has only canned pumpkin, one must use a recipe calling for plain canned pumpkin in order to bake a successful pie.
Yes.
My favorite, ritie (re-tay). It's my own recipe. Take biscut mix and mix in 1 tbls pumpkin pie spice, and 1 cup of canned pumpkin. Add 1/2 the amount of liquid, eggs, etc. to the mix. Bake according to directions on package. Serve with cinnamon pumpkin butter.
sure you can! it will make pumpkin bred probably!
Pumpkin puree is just that - pumpkin that has been pureed. Pumpkin pie mix is the pumpkin puree with added ingredients, such as sugar and spices.
Trust but verify. I measured. One 30 oz. can internal contents of Libby's canned pumpkin mix measures in a liquid or even dry measuring cup about 3 cups....NOT 3 1/2 cups This dramatically alters a recipe, so always measure. So for a 15 oz can, it would be 1 1/2 cups canned Libby's pumpkin pie mixture.
It's a lot easier if you take it out of the can first. If you do so, you'll probably find that they pureed it before putting it in the can, so you don't really need to do anything more to it.
Different recipes. If you're talking about canned pumpkin for making pumpkin pie, you can use either pure pumpkin or a mix. Libby's, for example, has both. If you choose seasoned pumpkin mix, you don't add seasoning. Follow the recipe on the label. You do have to add some things. Probably what you mean by "regular pumpkin mix" is not a mix at all but 100% pure pumpkin. You do the mixing by adding the seasoning, the evaporated milk (not "sweetened condensed"!), and so on. If you're choosing canned pumpkin for pies, pay attention to which one you're buying because the quantities are different. For either choice, the label has the recipe and the list of ingredients. Use that as your shopping list, and follow the instructions carefully, and you'll be fine. No matter which way you do it, a little dash of fresh-grated nutmeg on top just before it goes into the oven is going to make a nice extra.
If you make the filling yourself (from pumpkin pulp, eggs, cream and spices, you can make sure that there is no gluten (gluten comes from flour) in it. If you purchase a mix to make it you will need to purchase a product which is sold as being gluten free. However, please note that the pastry case of the pie will have flour (and therefore gluten) in it unless you make the pastry out of a treated flour that is sold as being gluten free.
Hello! I was recently given a 15 oz. can of Mother's Maid pumpkin mix by my neighbor who knew that I like making pies upon occasion. I was surprised to see that their was no recipe written on the label of the can. I, therefore, decided to go ahead and prepare the pie using the recipe for the Libby's brand pumpkin mix and the pie turned out perfect. You can see this recipe at " verybestbaking.com " and type "pumpkin pie" in the search box....... Enjoy!
