If it is a G with a clover leaf and the numbers 4 and 8, is silver plate, and the mark of Gerity Products of Toledo, OH (in business since 1898 but now defunct I believe). The pieces are rather common, unfortunately. One often-seen pattern is the famous Hanoverian "rat tail" and that would be a reproduction of an English pattern made between 1710 and 1730.
