Crazy as it sounds, and this is a kid"s cartoon, they were never married. Olive Oil is a fine product of Italy, and this substance was used in wireless high power condensers in the radio rooms of RIN ships beginning around l907. Must have had an unusual smell when transmitting! You know it"s Crazy Popeye and Olive Oil had a child- sweet pea, and they were not even married.
Originally, Popeye and Olive Oyl were never intended to be married. The whole point of the cartoons were for Popeye and Brutus (aka. Bluto) to fight for her affections. In later years, there was an episode where there was a wedding. But, it turned-out to be a dream.
Bluto and Olive Oil
The song ( Popeye the Sailor Man) is too well-known to bear repetition, but the TV cartoons also used the Mcartney melotron solo ( Hot as Sun) which was played with one finger on a synthesizer, as I found out. Sounds vaguely Italian. Of course Mrs. Popeye was Olive Oil. Ever look at the nice Babes on bottles of Olive Oil?
Popeye's wife is named Olive Oyl. She is depicted as tall and slender with black hair tied in a bun. Olive Oyl is a love interest for Popeye in the cartoon series.
Olive Oyl. (note: the correct spelling is Oyl not Oil)
No, Olive Oil was not Sweet Pea's mother (unless she mailed him/her to Popeye). Sweet Pea came in the mail.
Both Mrs. Popeye and the mineral product hail from Italy.
