Wienerschnitzel is an American fast-food chain founded in 1961 as "Der Wienerschnitzel" that specializes in Hot Dogs, but is currently expanding to other items. Wienerschnitzel locations are almost entirely limited to California, Texas, and the Southwestern United States; this is despite the restaurant promoting itself as "The World's Largest Hot Dog Chain". The easternmost location, which suddenly closed early in 2009, was in Champaign, Illinois, is geographically isolated, as well as the westernmost location, in Tamuning, Guam, and the northernmost location (also isolated from the chain) in Burlington, WA. The chain's advertising mascot is an anthropomorphic hot dog who runs from people who want to eat him.
Wiener Schnitzel (two words) is the national dish of Austria, a thin slice of veal coated in breadcrumbs and fried.
