Scrooge had once been a nice young fellow until he started to work and became money hungry (a miser) and worked so hard he forgot to spend time with his family and friends and to see the world as it truly was. When he was given the chance to go back in time by the spirits during Christmas, he saw the damage that he had done and how he had hurt and cheated the very people he loved. He was saddened, frightened and being an old man by this time wanted another chance badly to atone for the wrong he did. He was given that time and he became a very loving and giving person.

Scrooge was touched by the Cratchit family's love and support for one another despite their poverty. He realized the impact of his actions on their lives and felt remorse for his past behavior. Scrooge showed compassion and compassion toward them after witnessing their situation.

Scrooge initially dismisses Marley's ghost as a hallucination. He doesn't know what to expect. He doesn't know if it will be bad or something good but is thinking to himself why the ghost of the future was weird looking with no head. He doesn't know that maybe the ghosts are connecting to him and what he is going to see and expect. Also, when he sees his future he was speechless. Seeing that nobody would want to attend his funeral was sad to him. Scrooge had an idea that nobody really liked him but to hear and see that no one cares about him enough to pay for his funeral is depressing. That showed him that he didn't give up on being selfish. Scrooge is a bad and selfish person and for him, he knows that he has to change his personality because if he doesn't it will lead him nowhere because eventually he will die alone and nobody will care for him.
He shows Scrooge a vision of his housekeeper, charlady and undertaker stealing his belongings and selling them. Then he is taken to the Corn Exchange in London where business men speak of te death of someone and lack any care or emotion in his passing. Finally, Scrooge is taken to a grave where he is forced to read the head stones inscrpition which simpley says Ebenezer Scrooge
