How to Do Your Makeup Like a Rock Star: Celebrity Edition?

Perhaps you think of lead singer John Rzeznik from the Goo Goo Dolls when it comes to 'rock star' makeup or American Idol's Adam Lambert who also rocks out in 'guy-liner.' But here are some tips on how to copycat makeup like a hot female vocalist.

Glam it like Gwen

From Gwen Stefani's biggest hits, 'Just A Girl' from the No Doubt days and 'Hollaback Girl,' to her own L.A.M.B. clothing line, the platinum blonde beauty has become legendary in her own rite. And her makeup is a huge part of her trademark: fire engine red lips and black eye liner. To steal her look:

• Start with a clean canvass- even out that skin tone with medium to full coverage foundation and set with a translucent powder.
• On the highest part of your cheekbones, sweep a matte pale apricot or pale pink blush.
• Apply a matte beige eye shadow all over your eyelids (the shadow color should be close to your skin tone actually). Then, sweep a champagne shade of shadow on the ball of your lids as well as the inner corners of the eyes- this shadow should ideally have a hint of shimmer in it. Next, apply band false lashes to pump up the wow factor to your eyes. Then line the upper lash line with black liquid liner and slightly flick it out at the outer edge of the eye. Lastly, apply two coats of black mascara on the fake lashes so they will blend in better with your real ones.
• Line your lips with a red lip liner- be careful to stay within our natural lip line. Then fill in your entire lips with the liner- this will help the lipstick last longer. Next, swipe a red shade of lipstick. If you have pink undertones in your skin, use a blue-based lip color (think cherry red), or if you have yellow undertones, choose a 'warm' red lip color (think tomato red).

Rock it like Rihanna

Ok, so Rihanna isn't exactly a rock star vocally, but she certainly personifies that in her style. Although her look is pretty consistent in the rocker chick department, her makeup and hair is always changing from badass edgy to pushing the envelope pretty far. But here's how to copy one of her makeup trends:

• Apply a liquid foundation and mix it with a drop or two of moisturizer or MAC Strobe Cream ($29.50) to achieve a dewy, glowing finish. Dust a little bit of loose powder and try to avoid the cheeks so it can look as luminous as possible, yet you don't want to skip the powder altogether on the rest of your face as you want to set the foundation.
• Next, contour your cheekbones by making a fish-face (sucking in your cheeks), then using an angled blush brush, apply a matte bronzer on the hollows of your cheeks and sweep toward the hairline. Then apply a soft pink or peach shade of blush on the apples of your cheeks and blend into the bronzer.
• Sweep a pale gold or champagne shade of eye shadow all over the lid and inner corner of the eye as a base. Then apply a lavender shade of shadow on the ball of the lid and sweep up into the crease a little bit. Next, blend a deep shade of amethyst on the outer edge of the eye and blend into the crease- but don't blend past the middle of the crease- keep the deepest shadow color toward the edge of the eye. (by the way, purple shadow shades beautifully bring out green or hazel eyes like Rihanna's). Then apply black eye liner on the top and bottom lash lines. You can even smudge the liner a bit for a sultry look. Then apply several coats of black mascara, or apply falsies for even more drama.
• Swipe a nude lip color and a touch of clear gloss on your puckers. Or if you're feeling gutsy like the 'Umbrella' singer, sport a fuchsia shade of lipstick and you're ready to face the music.
