Sailor Moon was not cancelled, yet the series was not completed in English. The Japanese company that created Sailor Moon did not sell the rights of English dubbing to any company based in an English-talking country. You can purchase many Sailor Moon products, including the episodes, on eBay or Amazon etc.
I heard that the English version was cancelled because America didn't want the last series because of nudity. Also because of Neptune and Uranus's sketchy relationship.
Because of the writer's strike. They did not have enough episodes to sell to CBS and CBS would not wait for more to be written, so they didnt pick up the show for a second series. The show tried to sell the second season to other channels but for some unknown reason, failed. CBS admitted that canceling Moonlight was a mistake and tried to pick it up in the 2008-2009 season but the actors had already moved on. They felt that Moonlight was going to be a good show that's second season would take a hit because loss of interest. Little did thay know that the Twilight phenomenon was going to hit and vampires would be "back in style".
It can actually be attributed to Jonathan Frid who initially brought the show its huge popularity.
After the release of the movie "House of Dark Shadows" Frid was concerned that he would be typecast as a vampire for life, so refused to play the part when his contract expired at the end of 1970. In 1971, Frid appeared as Bramwell Collins...a sort of Wuthering Heights" Heathcliff character. The shows ratings immediately declined, though did at least maintain a respectable amount of loyal viewers.
Also at this time, the network was having financial troubles and decided to target daytime programing for cuts. Despite not being entirely in the dumps rating wise, Dark Shadows; being the most elaborate show, was the first to go.
Apparently, ABC was flooded with angry letters in response to the cancellation, but it was still all over.
After being cancelled, part of the cast went off to film the second movie "Night of Dark Shadows" (whch Frid refused to be in), and this was the last time we were to see the original Collinwood cast.
Rumor has it that DS series regular, Michael Stroka, was dating a girl who was also fan of the series and he took the music box for her as a gift.
