∙ 11y agoJames Potter I thought himself superior to all of his classmates, and he was mean to everyone he hated. Also, James might have known that Lily Evans was Severus Snape's friend, which could be a contributor.

∙ 13y agoMy guess would be that James thought that Lily liked Snape, because they were best friends, and Snape liked Lily, Lily liked James, and James liked Lily. Lily and Snape were friends until he became a Death Eater. Sorry if that spoiled anything.

∙ 12y agoBecause Harry represented everything that Snape loved and hated all in one. Snape was in love with Harry's mother Lilly and loathed everything about Harry's father James. He wanted to protect Harry as he was Lilly's son yet he saw so much of James in Harry that it was hard for him to like Harry as a person.
That's how he dealt with his guilt -- it cannot be easy to meet a child whose parents you've got killed.
