The first firing was due to Ross' first onset of Bell's Palsy, a condition that causes paralysis of the facial muscles.
When WWF owner Vince McMahon was indicted by the federal government on steroid charges in 1994, Ross was re-hired to broadcast Monday Night Raw as McMahon's replacement. Once McMahon became available for commentary once again, Ross was let go once more and wouldn't be re-hired until 1995.
