Why is there typically a lag time between a movies theatrical release and its home video release?
It's way to obvious. The makers of the film have to carefully download every second of the movie to make sure its OK.
Sometimes it's because of money. If a movie does well then it'll stay in theaters longer. That might delay dvds or make them come out sooner, depending. Sometimes it's to include more special features.
The movie company is squeezing as much money out as they can. Which is a good idea due to the huge piracy laws being broken but it's also a catch 22 cuz must of the good pirated movies are taken when movies are on there last leg at the theater
A theatrical release gives a certain legitimacy to a video release
So they can get money for the theater release and more money for home release they wont get as much money if the sold at the same time.
