Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou) was Barney's heartthrob and although they discussed marriage in the series they never carried it out. Her last regular appearance is in 'The Return Of Barney Fife' when she comes back to Mayberry, having moved to Jacksonville and married to a construction foreman. In the 1986 made-for-TV movie 'Return To Mayberry' she comes back a single woman. We aren't told why but in the show she and Barney reconnect and get married.
