∙ 9y agoTo quote directly from the book... The littlun Percival had early crawled into a shelter and stayed there for two days, talking, singing, and crying, till they thought him batty and were faintly amused. Ever since then he had been peaked, red-eyed, and miserable, a litttlun who played little and cried often. Percival had obviously been told that should he ever become lost he should recite his name, address and telephone number an that would enable him to be returned to his home quickly. Clearly marooned on a tropical island his incantation had failed to get him returned home. As a result he seems to have had a breakdown. Later, in chapter 5: Beast from Water when he is asked to speak during the meeting the other boys laughter caused him to turn to tears, no doubt reminding him of his earlier breakdown which the other boys had found 'fainly amusing.'

∙ 9y agoPercival Wemys Madison is one of the "littluns" in the "Lord of Flies". Percy has the hardest time of all the children. He is either bullied or ignored. He clings to his memories of civilization by repeating what was once normal, his name and address over and over again. Percy is at the end of his emotional rope and as a result, the tears flow easily.

The main characters of Lord of the Flies are Ralph, Simon, Jack, The Hunters, Piggy, and Samneric. The other characters are The littleluns, Maurice, Robert, Percival Wemys Madison, Johnny, and Henry.
In my personal opinion, Percival shows to illustrate the loss of civilization on the island. Where in Chapter 5, Percival recites his name and address constantly, at the end, he cannot remember his own name. Coupled with Ralph's forgetfulness of why he was lighting the fire, the memory of civilization is clearly illustrated as fading.
In the last chapter of Lord of the Flies, a French officer asks Percival his name, but Percival can't remember it.

The littlun Percival Wemys Madison repeats his name and address a number of times. He has obviously been taught to do this so that, in the event that should he ever become lost, he can be safely returned home. Unfortunately for Percival he is lost in a location from which he can't be returned home. Ironically when rescue finally arrives, in the form of the naval officer, Percival is so traumatised that he can no longer remember any of the information he has been taught to repeat.
During the meeting in chapter 5 the littlun Percival Wemys Madison was asked to tell the assembled boys about the beast. Percival began to cry and once he started he would not stop, then the rest of the littluns began to join him. Maurice distracted them by pretending to fall off the springy log, which the boys called the twister. He clowned badly and rubbed his rump but he made the littluns laugh and as a result they were eventually able to persuade Percival to speak.
