In the beginning the mask had only two lines as the series progress the mask gains more lines and they grow larger if you notice the vizords all have white masks showing their complete control. i think that hichigo (hollow ichigo) is doing what he said he would sneaking up behinded and cutting him down. hichigo said dont die before i come back again if you want true power. ichigo didnt really win hichigo let him think he did so ichigo would drop his guard and let him in a little move each time.
