Harry and his friends never visit Harry's father in real life, as James Potter was murdered by Voldemort much before Harry even met his friends. However, Harry, in his first year at Hogwarts, does see his father and mother in the Mirror of Erised, which shows one what their deepest desire is. Harry also shows Ron [his best friend] this mirror, but Ron cannot see Harry's parents, as his greatest desire is different.
