Why did the Partridge family go off the air after 4 years of popularity?

I had heard that David Cassidy was tired of being a 'teenage idol' and wanted to be taken seriously. That's true, but most of the cast blames it on being put against "All In The Family" saying the network killed the show. I think it was a combination on both.

∙ 12y agoThe Partridge Family was not really a real band however it did have hit albums. The only people who really sang on the show were David Cassidy and Shirley Jones (Mainly Cassidy). The Show began to go down in ratings and added Ricky Seagull on the show as an attempt to make it go up in ratings. It then was moved to Saturday nights against "All In The Family" which was one of the most popular shows in America at the time. It was then canceled and the final episode aired on March 23rd, 1974.
