When a band depends on one or two guys of the 4 or 5 that comprise it, for most of the music and lyrics, especially the "hits", then the moment these composers, as well as usually the main face or singer of the band, decides they want to try something different such as solo album, or a collaboration with someone outside the band, the rest of the group is doomed to the whims of the main partner(s). This is a recipe for discord, disaster and an inevitable break up. David Byrne's head (no pun intended) grew larger than the rest of the group's, and essentially it was either David's way or the highway. Jerry Harrison had a couple of minor hots in the 80s, so did the Tom Tom Club (Tina and Franz), and they even formed between the 3 of them the short lived "The Heads", without David (who wouldn't be bothered for another TH album as he concentrated now on his solo career <--first hint of an impending break-up, but did have the delicacy and courtesy to sue his 3 friends for copyright infringement). This story is typical of most bands. And if you are part of one, make sure you learn and practice writing songs and lyrics in case one day your band breaks up you'll have something to fall back on to earn a living and maybe have a hit(s) of your own, and not become another Ringo Starr or Peter Criss.
