Fame does things to people, and different people react to success differently. Mick Fleetwood said later "Rumours was the album where we all got divorced." (Nicks and Buckingham split up, as did the McVies, and Fleetwood with his wife, during the making of the album.)

The breakup had started a while before "Rumours"- in fact "Rumours" was made more poignant by the fact that both couples were already splitting up. According to Stevie, Lindsay was overly jealous and suspicious of her. He resented her ambition and often treated her badly, especially in front of others, destroying their creativity. It was never a good relationship, and Lindsay is quoted as saying that they will never be friends, even though they have been reunited in Fleetwood Mac several times.

The Mc Vies, sadly, split up because of John's alcohol abuse.

The members of Fleetwood Mac were in bad terms after they differed on how to spend their proceeds with Peter Green suggesting that they spend all the proceeds on needy children.
