Mike cried often in his songs. For this song, it was not so much about him but for humanity. Will you be there even in my ( any of us) worst situation. Will you need me? Will you feed me? Will you hold me... will you be there for me? Will you still care. It it just like the song "Man in the Mirror". Will you dare to care? When I sing this song, I feel the same way. It is not about Mike, but about all of us for each other. This song pull at the heart string of our humanity and relationships with one another. Mike was sensitive like that.

As in all of his music, there was a message, if we would but listen carefully.

Because he is referring it maybe to a real life example that might be about a girl or his grandmother or aunt. Some people get very emotional when they refer their songs to real life.
