It is not uncommon for commercial radio and mainstream music stations to cater to Demographics under the age of 25. MTV, with a median viewer age of 21.6 years, is the top-rated network in the 12-24 demographic. This trend is especially seen in Pop Music.

Certain genre's however have been more lenient such as Rap, Hip-Hop, and Rock. Biggie, Smalls, 2Pac, Jay Z, and many other rappers have been successful past the age of 25.

In the Pop realm, it seems one must reach a certain level of fame in order to be successful past the age of 30 such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, or Janet Jackson. Hopefully this trend will change in the future.
