because they are a complete waste of time! everyone already knows what they want to buy IF they are looking to buy something. there is no reason commercial segments should take over 1/3 of the program time slot. commercials are a complete waste of time.
It's something to do with the musicians union. You remember the old 40's movies where they had a full orchestra playing on every scene, well the same happens today but it's more techno music/noise and the the directors are afraid to leave it out. I watched a new movie only yesterday where the loud humming and weird violin noise, I won't call it music, practically drowned out the dialogue.
