The song Way Old Friends Do was written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA. The song first showed up on the 1980 album Super Trouper. The lyrics to the 2009 version released by Faryl Smith have been partially rewritten by Bjorn Ulvaeus.

Tim McGraw does

Not disputing that Tim McGraw sings it but believe the best known version is by Roger Miller. I do vaguely recall having heard Willie Nelson singing it too.

A SHORT TIME LATER:

A check reveals that Roger Miller wrote the song and it was offered as a suggestion when Willie Nelson was looking for "Old Friends" to duet with. So the first recording was probably a duet.
