I believe it had some connection with Damon Runyon. the play had the plot device of stealing Hub caps by gangsters. there is a somewhat sacrilegious line that went ( they acted as if the purchase price of Man's redemption was a set of four hub caps) Other critics have assailed the play as a sort of Gangster take-off on Cinderella- and the Hubcaps transform into, I guess, a Packard Limousine. Crashing the party in style!-- but illegally.
