A lot of people will say lion , however they are wrong because they are just stupid lion fans that know nothing about a tiger's advantages. The tiger will win because it is stronger! heavier, more agile, bigger, has longer canines, is a better fighter, is smarter, and is not lazy and waits for females to hunt. Tigers rule and lions are no sicken beans

Answer: (See list of sources below)

Both of these animals are powerful and fierce carnivores. But scientists say that in a fight between a Bengal tiger and an African lion, there is a 90% chance that the tiger will win.

It is a well-known fact that tigers are the biggest cats in the world. Not only this, but tigers are noticeably more muscular, and better fighters. It is actually a myth that lions are better fighters than tigers, because tigers compete with each other for territory just as much as lions fight for a pride. Tigers also have experience fighting with many animals; Bengal tigers can easily kill large crocodiles and black bears, and Siberian tigers have been known to attack and kill huge adult brown bears. Tigers have been noticed as better fighters because they are more swift, agile, fierce, and have better eye-coordination. They have a stronger jaw force and paw-swipe. However, it is not true that tigers have longer fangs than lions. The skulls of these two cats have been compared, and usually their canines are about the same.

The term "King" comes from the fact that a lion's mane looks like a crown, and the fact that they rule a pride. A lion's mane can offer it protection from bites to the neck. This is especially helpful when facing hyenas, which have a very deadly bite. However, a tiger will not always go for the lion's neck, but instead will usually attack it's limbs, eyes, head, and face. And the difference between the two cats' lifestyles adds on to which is more intelligent: Living a solitary life results in the tiger being more cunning. The tiger also hunts larger prey than the lion. The largest prey that lions hunt is the African buffalo, a species of African cattle. Tigers, however, are excellent at hunting gaur, which is the largest type of cattle in the world. There are also differences in the way the two animals fight. Lions tend to stand on three legs, and use one paw to fight. Tigers normally balance on their hind legs and use both front paws to fight, giving them a huge advantage. Tigers also use "trickery", keep their heads back, and use well thought-out moves when fighting, while lions are known for blindly charging. Another important feature in how well the animals fight is the way their bodies are built. Lions are built more stiffly than tigers, and their bodies are more compact. Lions sometimes appear more muscular in the forelimbs, but tigers simply have more fur covering their muscles, so they are harder to see. Tigers also have more flexible muscles then lions.

The lion DOES have an advantage though: courage. Lions are braver, and less likely to back down from a fight. There have been reports of tigers submitting to lions when they meet in reserves, so they can avoid injury. But if the lion refuses to leave the tiger alone, than the tiger is probably going to end up victorious. Within the Bengal tiger scientists found a most disturbing ferocity. When it comes to the decision to fight, this cat attacks violently, most often winning in any fight against a lion.

In the end, the tiger's agility and accuracy comes out on top. 80% of experts agree that the tiger is the dominate cat. But not only National Geographic reporters say so. There are many polls on the internet where people can vote on who theythink would win, and one can see that many more people bet on the tiger than the lion.

Animal Planet tried to prove that the lion was a better fighter, but they eventually submitted to National Geographic, which is a bigger company. They admitted to National Geographic that they simply preferred lions over tigers.

The YouTube "fights" that appear to show a lion winning, are not what they appear. In one, a tigress has a male lion in a death grip before the animals are broken up by a high pressure hose. Another, the "Gir Forest" fight, was a complete sham. In it, a lion appears to kill a smallish tiger or tigress, but in the extended version of this video, the tiger gets up and yawns and strolls away. This fight was supposed to be in the wild, but could not have happened because the Gir forest is over 100 miles from tiger country. One can find about anything on that site, and there are many videos of tigers defeating lions. If both animals are of the same age, and weight, the tiger will win nearly every time. Tigers are superior fighters, the myth that tigers just hunt and lions fight just isn't so. A male lion may have to defend his turf maybe ten times over the course of a lifetime, but male tigers fight over turf and mates every year. With two or more males in a lion pride, their fight ratio goes down even more. When I was working with these cats, three times had we fights between them, and the tiger was winning in two, in the other, an adult male lion was chasing a two year old tiger around before we got them apart .

A fight between a lion and a tiger could of course never happen in the wild, because the main population of lions reside in Africa while the tigers reside in Asia only. Even the tiny Gir forest population is 200 miles from the nearest tiger ranges. But still, it would be a really close fight. So lets examine the two.

First off, it is commonly known the the tiger is the largest cat on earth being longer and heavier then the lion. With Bengals being up to 10ft while average Lions up to 9ft. The average weight for a healthy male lion is between 350-550 pounds, so they average about 450 pounds while the healthy male tiger get just about 500 lbs. In height, the lion is about 5 inches taller at the shoulder then tiger, but apparently the tiger's neck and Sagital crest are more developed which kind of makes up for it.( I should note that the statistics are from average lions and Bengal tigers, Siberians are bigger.) Overall you can see even though the tiger is larger there is no huge size difference.

Second, lets look at their strength, which for big cats can be compared to a healthy adult male. A fully grown Bengal tiger is estimated to have the strength of twelve to fifteen fully grown, and healthy adult men and a fully grown African lion is estimated to have the strength of ten to thirteen adult men. Still the two are really close and none have had an decisive advantage. In Bite force, it is a debated concept and experts argue that a lion's bite force is anywhere from 600 to almost a 1000 pounds per square inch. A tiger's tops out at about 1000 too.

Third, we can take a look at the prey tigers and lions hunt and their behavior in fights and interactions. Both tigers and lions averagely hunt the same or similar sized animals. (wildebeest sized) Lions prides can also take down much larger animals such as cape buffalo, but tigers can also take down Gaurs, both of which are extremely large animals. Also Lions and lion prides can take down leopards, hyenas, and sometimes crocodiles, while the tiger takes down small bears ,leopards, crocodiles, and wild dogs. ( in Siberia bears make up about 6% of a tigers diet and they have been known to attack and kill brown bears.) In cases of interactions, both animals are highly territorial and males don not tolerate each other in their territories. It is often though that because the male lion is the pride defender and fights his whole life he would win, but a male tiger shares his range with up to 5 females and their cubs and must defend them from invading males. So while a lion may fight 12 or less times in his life a tiger might fight 10 times in his life, so they both are experienced fighters.

Fourth we will talk advantages. for the lion, they have the mane. This is highly debated and may or may not counter a throat bite, but this is assuming that they animals will fight like they are hunting prey. The two will most like smack and claw each other rather then attempt a throat bite, besides the animal can be paralyzed with a extremely hard hit to the back, and most fights just don't in death. Also the lion will be more willing to fight because he has a mental image that he has a pride to scavenge off of if he looses while the tiger has nobody to help him, so the tiger will be more cautious while the lion ferocious. For the tiger he enjoys larger paws, claws, and teeth in the fight. Also while the cats both have the same top speed of 50 miles per hour, the tiger is more agile and makes faster swipes then the lion. Also because the tiger has much stronger back legs, he is able to stand on them and swipe with two paws instead of one.

Lion's advantage

1. More willing to fight and less like to retreat.

2. Mane

3. Experience

4.Ferocity

Tiger advantage

1.Size

2:. Weaponry (claws, teeth, paws,)

3. Brute strength and bite force

4. agility

In the end it would be a very close fight, but i would have to give the fight to the tiger because of slight advantages in strength, size and agility.

This fight might not happen in the wild but it happened with great frequency in the Roman Coliseum - the Lions lost so often (more than 90% of the time) that the Romans started pitting 5 Lions against 4 Tigers to make it a more even fight (which didn't make any difference)

And incidentally it has been documented that the main reason that tigers kill lions virtually everytime they fight is actually not as much to do with extra size or weight but more to do with the fact that Tigers can raise themselves up on their back legs and strike with both paws at once whereas Lions keep one front paw on the ground and strike with only one paw at a time.

lion will win

Well this is an ancient but unanswered question... Probably it will remain unanswered because both of these cats are comparable in size and strength and will never possibly fight each other in natural conditions... But the facts are as follows-

TIGER contenders-

Panthera Tigris altaica - Amur tiger

Panthera Tigris Tigris - Bengal tiger

Average weight- 550-620 pounds

Total length- 3.5m

Habitat- Siberia, Indian deciduous forests and mangroves

Style- Solitary and ambush

Territorial behavior- Highly territorial

Preys- Sambar, Gaur, nilgai, barasingah, Water buffalo, sloth bears, leopards and even crocs.

The highlighted preys are either Obligatory carnivores or muscular heavyweights.. (Gaur for example weighs over one tonne)

Remember one fact that tigers are solitary and hunt single handedly.

Tigers are more robustly built than lions and are near to Smilodons and jaguars.

As they are solitary and live lonely, they are more cunning and are more ferocious too.

LION

Panthera Leo Leo - Barbary lion extinct in wild

Avg wt- less than 530 pounds

Total length- 3.3 m

Habitat- African savanna

Style- In prides and ambush

Territorial behavior- Highly territorial

Preys- Wildebeest, nilgai, Cape buffalo, Gazelles, Zebras and sometimes Giraffes

So advantages of Lion over tiger-

Mane may protect to some extent and foil few attacks

Mane may also make a lion look Bigger

For a solitary lion... no more advantages...

Advantages of Tiger over lion-

Tiger on avg is Heavier, stronger, more cunning, more ferocious and more robustly built than a lion.

So facts are here... and answer...? I think you got it!

Reliable Answer: (See list of sources below)

In a fair fight between African lion and Bengal tiger the African lion will be the victor. So lion vs tiger. Let's break it up. Everyone with me, so let's analyse the two cats in a fight of course, starting with the lion

It's a well known fact that tigers are the biggest cats in the world. It's a well known fact that the lion is the tallest cat at the shoulder and that African lion is also longer than a tiger. The word "bigger" appears in lenght height and weight. Tigers are usually heavier than lions on average. Lions are 4 feet tall while tigers around 3.5 feet. 6 inches is not a huge difference. 10.2 to 11.4 feet is not a big difference as well. Most lions are lighter than tigers but most is taller and longer. Tigers can be up to 50Ibs heavier on average. I'll say Siberian tiger is the biggest and African lion is just the size of Bengal tiger. I have a proof to that. Enormous mass of people do not see the difference between lion and tiger skeleton, which will be impossible with a bigger size difference than slight. Lions are not just the size of a tiger, but they are better fighters. Male lion spends 4 years learning for the fight for a pride. People think that tigers are more skilled because they fight as much as lion does for a pride. Here a fact to disagree with this remark. Lionesses do most of he hunting but when a pride finds something big they all join the hunt and don't quit until they've made their kill. Even males. There are few clips where a single lioness chases the entire elephant herd for about 60 meters. Every animal on African plains flees when it sees lion coming. Lions had evolved as fighters. All what a male lion does is protecting his pride. Male is just ready to risk his life to protect all what he has. On the other hand male tiger has evolved in more hunting lifestyle because not only because tigers have larger territories than lions but also because animals in the jungle are further spread out. Male tiger spends a lot of his time looking for a suitable prey like axis deer or wild boar. He is less interested in fight because tigress won't help him. Tiger forequarters appear easily on tigers short fur. Because of the lion's mane it is usually the lionesses who are compared to male tigers but some people claim them to be tigresses. Lions had been noticed as better fighters because they are smarter, braver faster and have better eye coordination which leads to fantastic dodges it does. It makes more damage with his claws and has stronger pawswipe. His mane supports him in the fight it would not evolve it it would do nothing. Lions are also more aggressive, fierce and determined fighters and they like to fight more than tigers.

The tiger is a fierce Asian cat with big retractable claws. The tiger strikes from cover so it doesn't need to run that fast as lions do. Tigers had been told to have wider jaws than lions this letting them to have stronger biteforce. But the fact is, tigers "broad" on their cheeks and under the chin makes the tigers head look wider than they actually are but has the function as lion's mane only in a miniature version. According to real measurements lions head is longer and wider. Tigers are also said to use two paws at a time while lion must have 3 paws on the ground. This is not true. Lion's stand on 3 as much as on two. There's another myth that tigers hunt gaur regularly and that biggest prey lions hunt on is the African buffalo. In fact the tiger hunts gaur as much as lion hunt on giraffe or hippo, and pride of lions can take down an elephant in less that half an hour while it takes hours for tiger to take down smaller Asian elephant.

The tiger does stand a chance against male lion, strength. Tigers have more strenght and can drag 100Ibs heavier prey over the same distance. Tigers use their stronger hind legs to do that. Tigers have more strength. However when working on a throat bite the scientists found most annoying piece that it takes the jaws almost no power to suffocate a deer giving the lion huge advantage. When the lion will see the opportunity for a throat bite when fighting with a tiger, the lion will use it. This means lion will use throat bite to end the fight quickly, most often defeating any tiger specie at all

In the end, it is obvious that a lion would be the victor. Lions supreme skills and unexpected throat bite comes to the real king of the beasts. Surely they don't give superior titles for nothing. The lion is the dominant cat. But not only Animal Planet and Discovery Channel say so. There are some people trying to prove the tiger to be better but no one supports them so they make multiple accounts to support themselves, P.S.

Size of the company does not affect in anyways. Discovery Channel and Animal Planet agree that a lion would win.

If a lion and a tiger fought, the tiger would win because the tiger is more used to fighting one on one than the lion. This could be a huge advantage. Also, the Tiger is a brutal and fast fighter.

Not likely to happen because the tiger will submit.

Tigers submit to prevent from being injured because they've to hunt for

themselves. Lion would beat the tiger , but not likely to kill it.

That question was a problem since Romans. However archeologists never find out who won. The most common thing is that people think tiger is the winner but somehow lion got this crown. There are some crazy people saying lion is king tiger god.Thats funny , noone in the world know that title so how is this a title? It is just a imagination in someones head who thought tiger is the god.Lions not for nothing got a huge status in human imagination. Lions always fight to end and to make some films people need as much as 3-5 tigers vs 1 lion.To make the film called Big Cage they needed 4 Male Bengal tigers and they were beaten one after another. they were definitely males because all of them have balls.Tigers in that film were all beaten and director of Big Cage still didn't see tiger winning. He decided to cut out lion killing , defeating and dominating tigers and not only HE chased that lion into cage but said that it was A tigress who chased lion. This was the biggest lie in history.

Lions have almost no chance to loose with a tiger .A famous tiger EXPERT Kailash Sankhala Story of the indian tiger 1977 page 119 says a lion would beat a tiger. The tiger MIGHT have a chance to get out of this flair.Tigers because they live in deep jungles they are more flair and can swift out somehow and escape.lion wouldn't chase it, after 300 yards it will asume dominant posture. As tigers are hevier they are slower.
In some fights tiger has only 2-4 hits or bites and they already get beaten. It'll took about 3-5 tigers to defeat a male lion.It IS not true that it is myth that lions are better fighters.Lions fight almost everyday for food.Territory fights are rare because tigers and lions territory can cover almost 130 kilometers squared.
Now of cat experts and reporters will always appear lion as a king and champion fighter. Lions have 75-95% chance to dominate Bengal tiger.

Another view:

As a former keeper of lions and tigers, I saw three fights between these two great cats. While it is true that tigers are reluctant to fight, because lone hunters could starve if injured, if pressed they fight like demons. In the encounters I witnessed, the tiger clearly won two of the fights before we broke them apart, the third was an adult lion that pinned a two year tiger, and had him in a bad way before we stopped it. The tiger is a more powerful, heavier animal on average, and when forced to fight, attacks with a ferocity that seems to catch his opponent off guard, and the lion appears to try to retreat after starting the scrap, unless he is fighting a smaller animal, such as a tigress, even then victory is not assured, the film the "Big Cage" shows a fight between a tigress and a lion, and the tigress had a grip on the lion's muzzle, cutting off his air, when high pressure hoses stopped the fight. This does not mean all tigers can beat all lions, and lions have been known to win on occasion, but if both cats are close in size and age, the tiger usually will win.

well I would say the female tiger because a large female tiger weighs 440 lbs while a large female lion is 350 pounds the tiger is 8 feet long and the lion would be 7 feet long and they're the same height the tiger is longer, faster, stronger and hevier.

Which one will get victory between tiger or lion?

The lion would win. because it's the king of the beast. It depends on which is bigger, tougher, stronger, and who backs down first. If it was a male lion against a tiger, the tiger would win; male lions don't last long on their own and pride-less. If it was a female lion against a tiger, it would depend on who was bigger, tougher, stronger, and who backs down first. Male and female tigers are about equal when it comes to a fight; the male are bigger but the strength of the two don't differ as greatly as they do between the lions. Females are not as strong, but being smaller, it's inevitable. Their size and strength ratios are comparable though. A female lion against a tiger would be an interest and HIGHLY UNLIKELY fight.
