Due to his sister's illness and his father being imprisoned for seemingly randomly attacking two muggle boys, the Dumbledore's led a very secluded life and Albus didn't have friends as a child. At Hogwarts, the other students believed he too hated muggles.

Dumbledore befriended Elphias Dodge, a fellow first year Gryffindor who had Dragon Pox which meant most students avoided him.

Later in his life, Dumbledore became friends with Gellert Grindlewald who he harboured a secret crush for.

As an adult, Dumbledore was close to several members of his staff, including Minerva McGonagall, Rubeus Hagrid and Severus Snape. He trusted Snape with some of his biggest secrets.
